Where Are the Bay Area’s Biggest Homes?
When it comes to spacious homes, some of the Bay Area’s most expensive neighborhoods aren’t necessarily the ones with the most bedrooms. A recent analysis of U.S. Census data found that Diablo and Atherton lead the region, averaging more than four bedrooms per home, while South Bay communities including Los Altos, Saratoga and San Jose’s Almaden neighborhood also rank among the areas with larger homes.
In general, suburban communities farther from San Francisco tend to offer more bedrooms, with Contra Costa County having the highest average bedroom count among the nine Bay Area counties. The findings offer an interesting look at how dramatically housing stock varies across the region - and how home price, location and the amount of space you get don’t always move together.
